Lifting weights and spirits with her “i enjoy” mentality! Powerlifting

YAMAMOTO Eri

Nickname:Mac

i enjoy

That feeling when my soul, technique, and body becomes one. In para powerlifting, you have to lift the weight you announced you would lift, accurately, and with beautiful form.

Strong points

“The explosive power and the speed with which I can lift the barbell when I’m in the zone. Even when I’m training, I can lift the barbell pretty quickly—regardless of the weight—as long as I’m concentrating properly.”

  • Was born with spina bifida, which caused impairment of her legs from birth. Began swimming at 9 years old and competed in the Kinki Tournament, the Japan Championships, etc. for para swimming. Discovered para ice hockey while studying abroad in Canada at 29 years old, and began playing with members of the powerhouse Canada national team. Was studying parasports in graduate school, but returned to Japan at 32 years old to do work related to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, in her home country. Became an employee of The Nippon Foundation Paralympic Support Center (Parasapo) starting 2015. In May 2016, she experienced para powerlifting for the first time at the Paralympic Games workshop program, “NO LIMITS CHALLENGE,” hosted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Thought to herself, “Which is more fun? A life where I do para powerlifting, or a life where I don’t?” and decided to chase her dream once again, aiming for the Tokyo Paralympic Games as an athlete. Currently competes in matches in Japan and abroad, while in charge of projects concerning awareness for people with impairment at Parasapo.
