  • Developed meningitis at four months old, and was left with no function in both legs. Discovered wheelchair basketball after being invited to a training session by a physical education teacher at his special education school, and began playing competitively in his local club team. Transferred to the powerhouse Miyagi MAX team in 2009, and gradually worked his way up to the Japan national team. Competed in two Paralympic Games before becoming captain of the men’s wheelchair basketball Japan national team. Went out overseas in October of the same year, and played two seasons in the Köln 99ers in Germany. His club team, Miyagi MAX, has won the Japan Wheelchair Basketball Championship (Emperor’s Cup) 11 times in a row. He has been crowned MVP three times. (As of January 2020)
