In powerlifting at the Paralympics, athletes with lower limb impairment compete using the bench press. There is no classification system based on impairments. Instead, athletes compete within their weight class (10 classes for men and women). To get into the starting position, lifters lie across the bench and lower the bar to their chest. Then, on the official's cue, they exert all of their force to press the bar upwards, and lower it again. Lifters with lower limbs must keep their legs extended, and must not let them touch the floor.
