Biathlon is a combination of cross-country skiing (free-style) and rifle shooting. 3 events take place at the Paralympics: short, middle, and long. For the shooting discipline, biathletes shoot in prone position, and receive a penalty for each missed target. Thus, biathlon is a high-level sport that requires both endurance and concentration.
Tips on watching games
As in cross-country skiing, biathletes compete in 3 classifications: standing, sitting, and visual-impairment. At the 2014 Sochi Paralympics, the Russian biathletes gave an outstanding performance amidst the cheers of their countrypeople, while Kozo Kubo won a bronze medal in the men's short distance sitting event.
