  • Had his left leg amputated below the hip at 12 years old, due to illness. Began playing wheelchair tennis at 14 years old, competing in his first Paralympic Games at the Atlanta 1996 Paralympic Games. Began training more seriously in wheelchair tennis, playing match after match on overseas tours and becoming a leading figure in the Japanese wheelchair tennis world. Won the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in 2003 and 2007. Has competed in six Paralympic Games in a row, from Atlanta to Rio.
